A Seasonal Refresh Needs More Than New Dates
A planning site can have correct dates and still send a reader down the wrong path. The v13 seasonal refresh checked the data, the surrounding prose and the route back to the calculator.
In brief
Official holiday dates for the remaining 2026 period and all 2027 full-day holidays were rechecked without a date change. Tasmania and Northern Territory 2027 school terms needed corrections. The release also repaired two hand-written claims, made calculator actions easier to find and fixed a narrow-screen table.
Check the source and the copy separately
The holiday data was compared with the Fair Work Ombudsman's published 2026 and 2027 lists. That check found no change to the stored full-day dates. Separate state education sources confirmed Tasmania's 2026–27 summer return and the Northern Territory's 2027 breaks; the April NT break had been a two-day placeholder and now runs from 3 to 12 April.
Generated tables did not protect hand-written text. A Queensland page and homepage card placed the King's Birthday in late October, though the applicable date is the first Monday in October. A Western Australia page described a Royal Show holiday that does not exist as a state-wide public holiday; it now refers to WA Day. The lesson is to audit prose as well as JSON when a calendar release claims to be current.
Make the useful next action visible
The 29 September measurement review showed calculator completions on the homepage, while state pages carried many search impressions but almost no clicks through. The release put a direct planning action high on each of the eight state pages and a route back to the calculator on the 2027 rankings page. This is a navigation change, not evidence that more visitors completed a plan after release.
The Queensland page and Western Australia page now carry corrected wording beside their generated dates. The calculator remains the place to test a personal leave plan.
Release checks close the loop
The same pass repaired a 320-pixel overflow in state holiday tables, returned Victoria and rankings pages to the shared base stylesheet, and made sitemap modification dates reflect actual page changes. Checks covered 16 state-year bridge tables, 54 HTML files, structured data, internal links and mobile layouts. The v13 authoring tree and production mirror matched before publication, and sampled public routes and a genuine 404 were checked after the release.
This entry records the technical reason for the refresh. The Build Log and Editorial Standards explain how the site separates documented changes from future plans.
