Editorial Standards

Aussie Leave Calculator exists to give Australian workers accurate, practical leave-planning information. This page explains how we source, verify, cite, and correct the material on the site.

Accountability

Joe Foley is the accountable editor and publisher of Aussie Leave Calculator. He is responsible for the site's editorial standards, source-review approach, and corrections process. Editorial and corrections correspondence can be sent to [email protected].

Source hierarchy

Public-holiday dates are taken, in order of authority, from the Fair Work Ombudsman public holidays guidance, official state and territory government public-holiday pages, and, for school terms, official state and territory education departments. Where sources differ on a regional or substitute holiday, we follow the state or territory government's own listing and note the regional limitation.

Citation methodology

Every public-holiday table is generated from the same verified JSON data used by the calculator. Each data file records the primary source URL, jurisdiction source URL, and last-checked date. Visible pages then show a "Dates verified" note, link to the relevant state or holiday guide, and link from the homepage source table to the official government portal. We use descriptive anchor text such as "Fair Work Ombudsman annual leave guidance" rather than vague source labels.

Verification workflow

Holiday and school-term data is checked before each release, re-checked at least quarterly, and re-checked whenever a government publishes a new year's dates or correction. The current calculator data covers 2026 and 2027. A data refresh must update the JSON source metadata, page "last verified" wording, sitemap, and project history.

Fact versus commentary

Every date on this site is treated as a hard fact. Strategy advice, trend discussion, and leave-management commentary are editorial explanation written to help readers plan; they are not statements of legal entitlement or professional advice.

AI assistance

This site's content and code are produced with AI assistance and reviewed before publication. Dates are generated from verified data rather than written freehand, specifically to keep AI-assisted drafting from introducing factual errors.

Corrections

If you spot an incorrect date or a holiday we have missed, please tell us via the contact page. Include the holiday name, jurisdiction, date, and a link to the official source if possible. We correct confirmed errors promptly and update the affected verification dates.
